Billy Elliot

Billy Elliot

VO:

Set against the backdrop of the 1980s coalminers strike Billy Elliot the musical tells the heart warming story of a young dancer and his struggle to escape the depression of his northern mining town. We went along to have a chat with one of the boys who plays Billy.

Leighton Williams

The storyline is roughly about a little boy, when he did boxing and then he got caught up in a ballet class and form then on he started doing ballet and he loved to do it and he auditioned for the royal ballet school in London and he got the part and lived in London

Leighton Williams

I like the story because in some ways it binds into my story because I didn’t do dancing before my audition.

Leighton Williams

My favourite number in the show is electricity because I get to do my favourite dancing which is hip hop and show my best quality of dance really.

Vox pop

I am overcome. It was a great, great three hours of entertainment and the talent is stunning.

Vox pop

I’ve seen loads of shows but this one's really touched my heart. As you can see whinged all night. It was just fabulous.

Vox pop

You just can’t believe that actors so young can dance and sing and do all of these things. It’s just absolutely astounding.

VO:

Despite opposition from his family Billy develops his dancing skills under the tutelage of eccentric dance teacher Mrs Wilkinson,

Leighton Williams

Well Mrs Wilkinson is a dance teacher and I like that part because she’s really giddy.

VO:

The Billy Elliot movie was a big hit when it was released in 200 so why should people come and see the stage production?

Leighton Williams

I think they should come and see the show because there’s loads of different story, there’s loads of different feelings that you can take from this show. There’s bits where you want to cry and it’s just a good show I think

Vox pop

I just arrived from New York yesterday to visit my grandchildren and I would rank this as one of the all time best shows I’ve ever seen

Vox pop

The whole cast was amazing. It just absolutely blew me away.

Vox pop

I saw the movie and I think to see it on stage like this really brings it to life.
