Half Moon Theatre

Half Moon Theatre

IV

The half moon theatre was founded in 1997 to present professional work for young audiences, but also it means a place where young people come to participate themselves in their own creative theatre making. In terhamlet we’re the only theatre that exists which specializes in creating work or allowing people zero to seventeen  to participate themselves in making theatre. What’s unique about our courses that maybe compare with some places, is that our youth theatre is open to everyone, you don’t need to audition, you just need to be enthusiastic, you need to be able to come along every week and really give as much as you can towards that,

In a typical session we start with a physical warm up to get everyone prepared and warmed up and then move on to games and exercises which really start to build the group dynamic, like today, the name game, one that’s named the name game, also helps create the space, and create an awareness of the space. The second game we played today is a listening game, and helps promote listening and concentration and also helps them with their memory as well.

I’ve got this group of 7-9year old girls and I’ve never met such a lively bunch of girls which is brilliant and their imaginations are amazing. We’re looking a little more at finding one particular story and how that story has a nice beginning, middle and end, and how it all links together.

I think hopefully for us the biggest thing is they come, have fun, enjoy themselves, and improve their confidence, their self esteem, their creativity, their imagination, and over the years you really see an enormous development.

I wanna be an actor, I wanna be in films and soaps.

Its like a fall back plan for me, cause I wanna be a doctor, and if I don’t make that I’ll probably be an actress or something.
