With hits like Sherry, Big Girls Don’t Cry and Walk Like a Man it was only a matter of time before the music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons hit London’s West End but while the songs in Jersey Boys the musical are sure to be a hit with audiences a chat with the boys themselves convinced us that there’s more to this show than a few catchy tunes.

 

I’m Ryan Molloy, I play Frankie Valli. I’m Steven Ashfield, I play Bob Guadio. I’m Glenn Carter, I play Tommy DeVito. I’m Philip Bulcock, I play Nick Massi. We are the Jersey Boys.

It’s about Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and really this show charts the course of band getting together, struggling, hitting the big time, struggling through all kinds of obstacles that they encounter, mostly caused by this dude sitting behind me.

 

Ryan Molloy

They’re real guys from the real streets and they had a dream that I’m sure a lot of people share. They just wanted to better themselves and they did that through music.

 

Glenn Carter

We’re telling a true story about the lives of rock and roll icons really and everything they faced during their road to fame and their ultimnate demise and the resurgence with Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and then Frankie’s solo career.

 

Despite problems outside the recording studio, Frankie Valli and the Four Season’s sold in excess of 175 million records making them one of the biggest selling pop acts of all time

 

Glenn Carter

The only one that really sings them is Ryan. We do a lot of ooo-wop-sha-waddy-waddy basically in the background.

It’s great fun singing the songs but also we get a different audience every night so just watching the audeience reactions is brilliant when you finally get to sing those songs and they look at you like you are the Four Seasons

I think the first time the four seasons came here, I don’t think the English audience got enough time with them, didn’t get an opportunity to experience the full live culture of what the four seasons were about.

 

This show is so tight. You’re really proud to be a part of something like this because you’re telling a great story and singing great songs and it really is from the heart.
